The Joys of Family

Being a mother, I know the importance of catching those special moments of your children. Like with my own son, I wanted to take pictures of him every day. However, when you get to your second child, taking time to take photos can prove to be a little bit of a struggle, because you are most likely chasing after your oldest. Nevermind, if you find out you are having twins the second time around! So, when a mother from my playgroup asked if I could take a few photos of her twins, I just knew I needed to help her out. That's what mothers' do for each other.

I was incredibly excited, because even though I had photographed plenty of children, I had never photographed newborns. We tried to coordinate an outside shoot, because I am a firm believer in natural light, however, the weather never wanted to cooperate with us. So, we decided on a rainy Sunday, we'd all get together inside and make it work (not to quote Tim Gunn or anything!).

First up was little Miss Logan.

Logan's mom made sure to tell me that Logan is the twin that likes to have the attention. I soon noticed that when I stopped talking to her or stopped taking her picture, she would give me a look that said "Hey, what about me?". But when that camera was on her, man did she shine!

This image just makes me melt.

And yes....her toes were painted for the occasion.

Next was Connor.

At first, Connor was so serious. I think it was a combination of being tired and a little fear of my massive flash and camera.

But eventually he started warming up and we had a lot of fun!

This shot makes me crack up every time I look at it.

And then it was time to rest again.

Now let's see these two together!

We took a break with the twins so they could rest and eat. And I got to hang out with their older brother Jack(who would be the perfect friend for my little guy) and take some shots of him.

Just to see how similar our boys are, I asked Jack to "smile". This is exactly the reaction I'd get from my son too and I love it!

Things were starting to wind down, it was getting to be nap time for everyone. We all sat down for a group family photo. To get this, I climbed behind a couch (very stealthily I might add) to make sure I could get the shot. Aren't they the cutest family?

I had so much fun at this shoot, it didn't feel like work. I got to meet a new friend for my son and I have a feeling a new friend for myself as well. I hope you all enjoy these photos as much as I do and thank you for letting me be a part of your family for the day.

Here is one last parting shot of the twins.
